1973 VW Thing Parts

This is a nice Thing from 1974! This one has 45,000 original miles and is solid. One small rust spot (as shown)but the rest is in great condition. 

Front end has been completely redone, engine has been gone over and runs great. Hard top is included but we have a new soft top and can swap them out if you'd rather have that. 

Minor surface rust in the paint - worst is at the windshield mounts but could be cleaned up. The door post had some issue before i bought it - thus the primer - which was added on the other side as well. I also have replacement 'The Thing' stickers for the sides i can include if i can find them.

There is a small dent on the passenger side fender - i'll add pics tomorrow.

This is my personal car - i was planning on color matching the paint and feathering in the primered area but decided i need to thin out the herd a bit. 

Car is located in Detroit, MI, work was done at our shop Detroit Vintage Werkshop by Merlin Tabacco.

Rebuilt motor, no documentation, mileage is around 5k. Starts up wonderfully. Kept inside garage during winter and away from salted roads. Hardly any rust on it. After market hard top, will require some tlc to attach as well as a new side window. Soft top frame is usable, but requires the canvas. Rear seats were replaced with a bed extension/ box. I still have the backers for the rear seats. Tread on tires are great. Made in Mexico. Shipped over from California.
Original color was Avocado but was painted over a long time ago.

For sale is a rare, authentic Riviera Motorsmodified 1974 Volkswagen Thing (Type 181) in clean, rust-free condition. This is one of the extremely limited dealer-converted Riviera Things  not a tribute or aftermarket recreation.

The vehicle retains its original Riviera Motors modification tag in the door jamb, confirming the conversion was performed in 1974 by the same regional VW distributor famous for contracting the Riviera Camper conversions on VW buses.

These Riviera-modified Things are almost never seen for sale and were produced in very small numbers  likely only a handful. This is a great opportunity to own one of the rarest variants of the Type 181.
